Felt is the material
of choice for a wide range of "spacing" situations such
as seals for bearings, spacers in automotive applications, and any
other situation where a cushioning effect is desired between two
rigid structures. Washers and gaskets are also ideal for sealing
out dust and similar contaminants as well as retaining lubricants.
Pacific Far West produces many different types of gaskets, rings,
and washers in different OD/ID's, thicknesses, and densities available
for your specific needs. Typically these are produced through precision
die cut processes. We also have neoprene rubber available for similar
uses as listed above, and we have had much success in bonding both
rubber and felt together to achieve results not possible when the
materials are employed separately.
Felt has a distinctive place in the world of materials, but often
an inexact rating system. Felt permeates our daily lives, yet is
quite unobtrusive in use --rarely spectacular to the eye or consciousness.
Perhaps this is why felt is sometimes overlooked in engineering
and design calculations. Engineers have been known to specify metal,
plastic, rubber or leather when the proper quality felt would accomplish
the job as well or better and at much less cost.
